Design Process
Whether the project is large or small, the importance of following a design process cannot be over-emphasized. It helps to organize information and thoughts to make the correct decisions. It provides an orderly approach towards developing the appropriate design solution to meet your needs and the individual site conditions. Lastly, it ensures that there are sufficient touch points to keep you informed at all steps through the process.
Phase I – Consultation
We will meet to discuss your objectives, likes and dislikes of the current landscape, your lifestyle and how you wish to use the space. All family members should be considered at this phase…right down to the family pet! We will also discuss your budget for the project.
After this initial meeting a proposal will be provided, which outlines the scope of the project and applicable design fee. Once agreed upon this will form the contract for the project.
Phase II – Design
Detailed measurements and photographs of the site will be taken. A base plan is prepared and a site inventory and analysis are conducted. A preliminary design will then be developed and presented to you for discussion and feedback. Final changes will be made based on our discussion.
A final master plan will be developed with detailed estimates for all areas of work. The plan will include specifications for hardscaping elements such as pathways, decks, pergolas, arbours, water features, irrigation and lighting. A detailed planting plan will show the names, sizes and quantities of all plants. At this point a budget for plant material will be prepared.
Phase III – Implementation
This phase can either be completed by you or we can source and obtain quotes from qualified landscape contractors to implement the plan. If required, a phasing schedule will be developed to meet your timelines and budget.
Phase IV – Maintenance
We provide a customized maintenance guide that outlines the sustainable gardening practices required to properly care for your garden. You may choose to do the ongoing maintenance of your new garden yourself, or we can source a qualified maintenance company to perform this service.
