W 3rd Avenue - Kitsilano
This older home in a mature area of the city was in need of curb appeal. The new owners wanted seating areas and gardens for tenants to enjoy. They wanted to have a space that felt private without creating a complete barrier to the street. In keeping with the neighbourhood, a low yew hedge at the front provides structure and separates the garden from the public sidewalk. Several varieties of Japanese Maples create screening and provide four season structure to the garden. Yew hedge and maples are repeated along the front walkway, to enhance the approach to the front and side of the property.
This house now feels like a home, with gardens softening the architecture. Neighbours stop to chat while the owner putters in the garden and the patio has become a well-used spot to relax and entertain.
