W 8th Avenue - Kitsilano
The owners of this corner property had a definite sense of what they wanted but no idea how to create it. Their dream garden was an urban oasis with a sense of whimsy. Because of its location at the intersection of two busy streets with plenty of walk-by traffic, screening for privacy was a priority.
The design focused on creating a garden that was a true extension of the home. An existing patio was reconfigured to soften the edges and provide enough space for a large dining table, as well as relaxed seating. Lush shade plantings surround the patio and a water feature helps to soften the sound of traffic and create a feeling of calm in the city. Stepping stone pathways lead to a pergola with bench seating and a gas fire bowl. Many evenings are now spent enjoying the garden with friends and neighbours.
This design was a real collaboration. The owners were very involved in every step of the process and active in the installation. Once the garden was completed they injected a sense of whimsy with the addition of fun features that make it a truly special place…their urban oasis.
